Web design encompasses many different skills and disciplines in the production and maintenance of websites. The different areas of web design include graphic design of websites; user interface design (user interface design); authorship, including standard code and proprietary software; user experience design (UX design); and search engine optimization. Often, many people will work in teams covering different aspects of the design process, although some designers cover them all. The term “web design” is commonly used to describe the design process related to the front (client side) design of a website, including markup writing. Web design partially overlaps with web engineering in the larger field of web development. Web designers are expected to be aware of usability and if their role involves branding, they should also be up to date with web accessibility guidelines.
